Best Practices to Secure Amazon Web Services<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The business encrypts its data before the cloud provider even has an opportunity to see the information, preventing the provider from observing the unencrypted data at the time it is being encrypted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BYOE enables organizations to have a much higher level of confidentiality via encrypting the user&#8217;s data, especially when they are considering extremely sensitive workloads such as healthcare claims, proprietary ideas &amp; innovations, and financial transaction records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-benefits-of-byoe\">Benefits of BYOE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-full-control-of-encryption-and-decryption\">Full Control of Encryption and Decryption<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organization will also take responsibility for the entire encryption and decryption process, not just the management of the encryption keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that the organization makes all the important decisions around how, when, and where the business\u2019s data is encrypted with no involvement or reliance upon the native tools offered by the cloud provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, since the company is now controlling the entire process, the user&#8217;s data is now completely confidential and independent of any third-party environment or systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-customer-managed-encryption-engine\">Customer Managed Encryption Engine<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contrary to BYOK, where encryption is performed by the cloud provider, BYOE entails bringing (and managing) your own encryption software or encryption hardware, such as implementing an encryption tool in a secure enclave or in a Trusted Execution Environment (TEEs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Specifically, data is encrypted before it reaches the cloud provider, ensuring that the provider has never had access to unencrypted data at any point in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because its functionality is critically important when discussing an industry that will have its data compartmentalized and value added is based on the transfer of knowledge, then the absence of unique proprietary formulas would be detrimental to the reputation of the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-end-to-end-confidentiality\">End-To-End Confidentiality<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The primary feature of BYOE is its ability to provide end-to-end confidentiality for data. In this case, since the encryption process is managed solely by the customer, the cloud provider never sees raw data, whether in a stored state, processed state, or while in transit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clearly, by deploying in this manner, or by using a hardware encryption option as your IAM, BYOE is a safer option for an industry in terms of certainty of data confidentiality, where sensitivity is at its most extreme, as is evidenced in healthcare, financial services, or research organizations that disclose data about proprietary intellectual property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-high-security-but-more-complexity\"><a><\/a>High Security, But More Complexity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although BYOE offers the greatest confidentiality, it comes with more complexity.
