After acquiring the correct certificate, perform a few steps that will help you install it successfully on your Windows Server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prerequisites:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Prerequisites for Installing SSL on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 201<\/strong>9<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Private key:<\/strong> A secure key generated with the Certificate Signing Request (CSR).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Server certificate:<\/strong> Main certificate issued by the CA; your server provides it to the client (browser) for verification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Intermediate certificates: <\/strong>Provided by the Certificate Authority as part of the validation process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before Installation <strong>Perform these steps to <a href=\"https:\/\/certera.com\/kb\/generate-csr-on-exchange-server\/\">Generate CSR on Microsoft Exchange Server<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SSL Installation Process for Microsoft Exchange Server<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Upload certificates to your server<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Certificate Authority will provide you with the SSL Certificate in a Zip file. Open it &amp; extract the primary and intermediate certificates. Copy their entire contents into a text editor and upload them to your server for maximum security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Create Certificate Snap-in<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open <strong>Start <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Run <\/strong>&gt; type <strong>MMC <\/strong>(Microsoft Management Console), and click OK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>File <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/strong> in the MMC console and tap the <strong>Add <\/strong>tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Certificates <\/strong>from the list of snap-ins and click the Add button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Computer Account<\/strong> and click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Local Computer<\/strong> &gt; click <strong>Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close the snap-ins window &gt; go to <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/strong> window &gt; click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Install Intermediate certificate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>MMC <\/strong>console &gt; <strong>double-click<\/strong> on the <strong>Intermediate Certification Authorities<\/strong> folder (left-side pane)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to the <strong>Certificates <\/strong>option and <strong>right-click<\/strong> on it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>All Tasks &gt; Import<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Certificate Import Wizard<\/strong> will open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate your <strong>Intermediate Certificate<\/strong> file to proceed and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Place all certificates<\/strong> in store<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Intermediate Certificate Authorities<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To complete the import process, click <strong>Finish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A confirmation message will appear to confirm its successful conclusion; tap <strong>OK<\/strong>, and you&#8217;re all set!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Install Primary SSL Certificate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Start <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Programs <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Microsoft Exchange<\/strong> &gt; <strong>System Manager<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the <strong>Administrative Groups<\/strong> folder, and <strong>expand <\/strong>the <strong>First Administrative Group<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Servers <\/strong>folder, click on <strong>Exchange Server Container<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, navigate to <strong>Protocols<\/strong>, and go through each protocol you want to configure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start the <strong>Certificate Wizard<\/strong> in the new window by selecting the <strong>Access<\/strong> tab and clicking on <strong>Certificate<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the <strong>Pending Certificate Request<\/strong> page, choose Process the pending request and install the certificate, &amp; tap <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to Process a <strong>Pending Request window<\/strong>, and provide the location of your <strong>SSL Certificate<\/strong> where you have saved the certificate received from your SSL provider)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double tap the <strong>Certificate Summary<\/strong> box, and click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Finish<\/strong>, and you are done!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install SSL Certificate on Exchange 2007<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Save the <strong>SSL Certificate files<\/strong> provided by your provider to your server\u2019s directory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to Start, click <strong>Run<\/strong>, and type <strong>MMC<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to the top-left corner in the Console, and click on <strong>File &gt; Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, choose <strong>Certificates<\/strong>, click on <strong>Add<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Computer Account<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Next<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose<strong> Local Computer<\/strong> &gt; tap Finish<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hit <strong>OK <\/strong>to close <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-ins<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate the <strong>Certificates <\/strong>folder in the console, <strong>expand <\/strong>it and right-click on <strong>Intermediate Certificate Authorities<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>All Tasks<\/strong> &gt; click <strong>Import <\/strong>to open the <strong>Certificate Import Wizard<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open <strong>Certificate Import Wizard <\/strong>&gt; click <strong>Next <\/strong>&gt; Browse to locate your <strong>Intermediate Certificate file<\/strong>, and press <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Place all certificates<\/strong> in this store: <strong>Intermediate Certificate Authorities<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong>, and <strong>Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the <strong>Start <\/strong>menu, select <strong>Microsoft Exchange Server 2007<\/strong>, and click E<strong>xchange Management Shell<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type this command to import the certificate. (Make sure to replace the certificate location)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>Import-ExchangeCertificate -Path C:\\your_certificate.crt<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the below command to enable SSL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>Add Enable-ExchangeCertificate -Thumbprint paste_thumbprint_here -Services \"SMTP, IMAP, IIS\u201d<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Close <\/strong>the Exchange Management Shell.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have successfully installed your Microsoft Exchange 2007 server!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install SSL Certificate on Exchange 2010<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Create &#8220;Certificate Snap-in&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Start <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Run <\/strong>&gt; type <strong>MMC <\/strong>(Microsoft Management Console)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open <strong>File <\/strong>and select <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now select <strong>Certificates <\/strong>from the <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/strong> box and click <strong>Add<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, tap on <strong>Computer Account<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Local Computer<\/strong> &amp; click <strong>Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exit the <strong>Add Standalone Snap-in window <\/strong>and click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Intermediate Certificate Installation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the <strong>MMC<\/strong>, locate the left menu and right-click on <strong>Intermediate Certificate Authorities<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>All Tasks &gt; Import<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next <\/strong>in the <strong>Certificate Import<\/strong> window<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hit the Browse button to locate the <strong>intermediate certificate<\/strong> file on your computer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select &#8220;<strong>Place all certificates<\/strong>&#8220;<strong> <\/strong>from the Store<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pick  <strong>Intermediate Certificate Authorities <\/strong>from <strong>Select Certificate Store<\/strong> window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hit <strong>OK <\/strong>&gt; click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Finish and press <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>NO<\/strong> to remove the console settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Primary Certificate Installation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Start <\/strong>&gt; <strong>All Programs<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Microsoft Exchange Server 2010<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Exchange Management Console<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Microsoft Exchange On-Premises &gt; Manage Databases<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Server Configuration<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose your <strong>Primary SSL certificate<\/strong> from the Exchange Certificates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Complete Pending Request<\/strong> from the right-side Actions menu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, click <strong>Browse <\/strong>to locate the path of your <strong>Certificate<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press <strong>Open<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Come back to the <strong>Complete Pending Request<\/strong> window<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap <strong>Complete<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap the <strong>Finish <\/strong>button &amp; return to the console.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Assign Services to Certificate <\/strong>from <strong>Actions <\/strong>menu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>server <\/strong>you want the certificate to be installed into<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pick the <strong>services <\/strong>you wish to secure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Assign <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are done!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install SSL Certificate on Exchange 2013 &amp; 2016<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Create Certificate Snap-in<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Start <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Run <\/strong>&gt; type <strong>MMC<\/strong> &amp; hit <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From <strong>File <\/strong>menu, select <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Certificates <\/strong>from the <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-in <\/strong>box<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Add<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap on <strong>Computer Account<\/strong> &amp; hit <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Local Computer<\/strong> &amp; press <strong>Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exit from the <strong>Add Standalone Snap-in<\/strong> window and click OK button.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Install Intermediate Certificate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the <strong>MMC<\/strong>, locate the left menu and <strong>right-click<\/strong> on <strong>Intermediate Certificate Authorities<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>All Tasks &gt; click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Finish &gt; OK<\/strong> to close the MMC console.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>NO <\/strong>to remove the console settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Primary Certificate Installation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Log in<\/strong> to the Exchange admin center<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Servers <\/strong>and click on <strong>Certificates<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose your SSL Certificate; it will have a Pending request status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Complete<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter your <strong>SSL Certificate&#8217;s network path<\/strong> &amp; Click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get back to the <strong>Certificate <\/strong>and click <strong>Edit<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the next window, choose <strong>Services<\/strong>, and <strong>select the services <\/strong>you want to enable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hit the <strong>Save <\/strong>button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>our SSL Certificate is up &amp; running!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installing SSL certificate on Exchange 2019<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the <strong>EAC <\/strong>and go to <strong>Servers &gt; Certificates<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the <strong>E<\/strong><strong>xchange server<\/strong> from the Server list<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on More Options ***, and choose <strong>Import Exchange certificate<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An Import Exchange Certificate wizard will open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide this information:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>File to import from: <\/strong>Enter the UNC (Universal Naming Convention) path and filename of the certificate file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Password: <\/strong>The file is password-protected if it contains the private key or chain of trust<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In &#8220;<strong>the Specify the servers you want to apply this certificate to<\/strong>&#8221; page, hit the<strong> Add+<\/strong> button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the <strong>Exchange Server<\/strong> where you want to import your certificate and click <strong>Add &gt; OK<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the <strong>EAC <\/strong>and go to <strong>Servers &gt; Certificates<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the <strong>Exchange Server<\/strong> from the Server list<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pick the <strong>certificate <\/strong>you want to install and click <strong>Edit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the &#8220;<strong>Specify the services you want to assign this certificate to<\/strong>&#8221;
