To secure your Virtualmin server using an SSL cert, you first need to have an SSL cert<\/a>. And to get one, you need to submit CSR to a trusted Certificate Authority like – Certera, Comodo, Sectigo, etc., for verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is a CSR?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A CSR, a.k.a., Certificate Signing Request, is an encoded text or message that you send to a certificate authority when you want to get a – digital certificate (SSL cert) for your website. How to Generate CSR on Virtualmin?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Follow the steps mentioned below to generate CSR on Virtualmin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: <\/strong>Enter your credentials<\/strong> to log into the Virtualmin<\/strong> dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2:<\/strong> From the list, select the domain <\/strong>that you want to shield with SSL cert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3:<\/strong> Click the Edit Virtual Server<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4:<\/strong> Click the Enabled features <\/strong>option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 5:<\/strong> Click the checkbox placed adjacent to the SSL website enabled<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 6:<\/strong> Click the Save Virtual Server <\/strong>option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 7:<\/strong> Navigate to Server Configuration<\/strong> > Manage SSL Certificate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 8:<\/strong> Click the Signing Request <\/strong>option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 9:<\/strong> A form will be visible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 10: Fill out the form per the below instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. In the Server Name<\/strong> field, type the fully qualified domain name (FQDN)<\/strong> you want to shield. (E.g – example.com, *example.com (for Wildcard SSL cert)).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. In the Email Address<\/strong> field, type your official email address<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. In the Department <\/strong>field, type the department name<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. In the Organization <\/strong>field, type the full legal name<\/strong> of the organization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. In the City or Location<\/strong> field, type the name of the city<\/strong> where the organization is situated or located.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. In the State <\/strong>field, type the name of the state<\/strong> where the organization requesting the SSL cert is located.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. In the Country <\/strong>field, type the two letter code<\/strong> of the country where the organization is situated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. From the RSA <\/strong>list, select the default (2048)<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Leave the Days before expiry<\/strong> field blank.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. From the Certificate hash type<\/strong> list, select the SHA2 <\/strong>option.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Step 11: <\/strong>Review all the entered details carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 12:<\/strong> Click the Generate CSR Now button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 13:<\/strong> Verify that the private key and CSR code are displayed in Virtualmin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Once your Certificate Authority has checked and approved your Certificate Signing Request, they will issue the SSL certificate. You will receive the SSL cert on your registered email ID in the form of a – .zip folder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
