SSL certificate obtained from a CSR generated on Google Cloud Platform provides authentication, integrity, and confidentiality for applications, allowing clients to connect securely over HTTPS. This is an important security measure for any web or cloud application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By generating a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) on GCP and obtaining an SSL certificate, you are telling clients that the application they are connecting to is legitimate and owned by the entity that obtained the certificate. This prevents man-in-the-middle attacks & other types of fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steps to Generate CSR and Private Key in Google Cloud Platform<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Here are the steps to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) on Google Cloud Platform:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Go to the Google Cloud Console.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Select APIs & Services<\/strong> from the sidebar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Click on Credentials<\/strong> and then Create Credentials<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Select the OAuth client ID<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Choose Application Type<\/strong> as Web Application<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Fill in the Name<\/strong> and Authorized JavaScript<\/strong> origins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Click Create<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. The OAuth client ID<\/strong> and client secret will be generated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Make note of these credentials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Install the gcloud command line tool<\/strong> on your System (Device).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Run the following command to authenticate the gcloud SDK<\/strong> with your Google account:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
    gcloud auth login<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n

    1. Generate the CSR<\/strong> with the following command:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      openssl req -new -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout <KEY FILE NAME>.key -out <CSR FILE NAME>.csr<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
      You will be prompted for info to include in the CSR like country code, state, organization name, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. The <KEY FILE NAME>.key<\/strong> file will contain your private key and <CSR FILE NAME>.csr file will contain the CSR that you can submit to a CA to request an SSL certificate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
